Niels Bach

I’ve been admiring Niels Bach for quite a while. I think it’s awe-inspiring. Behold:

Solid teak with box joint construction. The work is precise and craftsmanly. 90° is actually 90°. There is no room for error in this piece. This is a cabinet for the cabinet maker. A work of art. A piece of craft par excellence. It is inspiration embodied.

  • The drawers have 4.25″ of usable vertical height. This is very nice.
  • The case is about 14″ deep. I think that I might go a bit deeper than that. Probably at least 16″.
  • The width of 27″ is appropriate for 2 facings of clothing. I don’t put clothing in mine though. I have tea, tea accessories, and sundries in mine. I bought this for its art value, rather than its functionality. I am deeply passionate.
  • Overall height of 32″. Not bad. I might aspire to a touch lower, but I like that there are five drawers. I could do without the storage space for those red jars underneath.

Wouldn’t this idea look beautiful in American walnut, white oak, or maple? Yeah. It would. And more affordable too. That teak is easy on the eyes though.

Imagine a world wherein everyone executed his work as Niels executes his. A utopia, perhaps a dystopia, but certainly a very interesting place.
